About Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga
The meaning of Ashtanga yoga comes from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras "the eight limbs of yoga". Following the eight limbs with diligence, passion and care can lead to personal inner freedom. The eight limbs include: restraints, observances, postures, breath control, internal focus, concentration, meditation and ecstasy. Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga is a physically dynamic, flowing and mentally and spiritually cleansing practice which links a traditional sequence of postures with the Ujjiya Breath using Mula and Uddiyana Bandhas.
Daily practice will increase strength, stamina and flexibility while clearing the body of toxins and blocks (physical, mental and emotional). Each breath synchronises with the movement (vinyasa) of each asana or posture during the practice.
Each student should practice to their own ability, knowing that progress is a result of consistent, focused practice without thought of attaining an end goal or trying to get somewhere.
